Indicator: B5.2.1.1.5 - Study the compositions and performances of Ghanaian and other African performing artists that reflect topical issues in Africa
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- identify at least three topical issues in Africa (such as climate change, water and air pollution, inclusion, and diversity) that are reflected in the compositions and performances of Ghanaian and other African performing artists.
- describe the type of art-form, theme or purpose, elements, dynamics, tempo, instruments, and style of selected African compositions and performances.
- discuss, in small groups, how specific Ghanaian and African performing artists use their work to draw attention to topical issues of concern in Africa.
- share their personal appreciation of a selected composition or performance during a shower thoughts session, giving reasons for their views.
- compare how two different African artists or groups address the same topical issue in their work.
