Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.1.1.1.3 - Generate ideas by studying visual artworks created by selected Ghanaian visual artists that reflect the natural and manmade environments of some communities in Ghana

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Name at least three Ghanaian visual artists and identify artworks they created that show natural or manmade environments.
  2. Describe the ideas in a selected artwork by identifying its type, topic or purpose, the natural and manmade things it shows, and the materials used.
  3. Compare two artworks by size, purpose, colours and the ideas expressed, stating at least one similarity and one difference.
  4. Record their own observations in a simple idea journal or sketchbook using drawings and short notes.
  5. List at least two ideas for their own future artwork inspired by the artworks studied.

- select artworks of some Ghanaian visual artists that show aspects of the natural and manmade environments;
- observe the artworks in detail and describe the ideas that make up the artworks (e.g. the type of artwork, topic/purpose, natural and manmade things they show, art materials used);
- assess the artworks by comparing their size, purpose, colours, ideas expressed, etc.
