Learning Objectives
Indicator: B4.2.1.1.2 - Generate ideas from the performing artworks of some Ghanaian performing artists studied for planning own compositions and performances that will reflect the history and culture of the people of Ghana
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify the topic, theme and purpose of at least one performing artwork by a Ghanaian artist studied in Week 5, such as Nat Brew Amandzeba’s “Wɔgbɛdzɛkɛ”.
- List at least three elements (words/lyrics, movement patterns, topics) used by a Ghanaian performing artist to communicate history and culture.
- Brainstorm and record at least two original ideas for their own composition or performance based on the history or culture of their own community.
- Create a simple planning outline (topic, key message, and one performance element) for an original composition or performance.
- Present their planned idea to a partner or small group and explain how it reflects Ghanaian history and culture.

Learners are to: - select a composition or performance of any of the Ghanaian performing artists studied; - think about the topic/theme or purpose of the work. For example, 'Wɔgbɛdzɛkɛ' by Nat Brew Amandzeba that traces the migration of the Ga people of Greater Accra region from Israel to their present location in Ghana; - study the words/lyrics, movement patterns and topics used by the artists in composing and performing their music, dance and drama (poetry/theatre); - generate ideas for composing and performing own music, dance, drama or poetry that will reflect the history and culture of the people of Ghana.
