Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.2.1.1.5 (Study the performing artworks of some Ghanaian performing artists that reflect topical issues in Ghana)

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Name at least three Ghanaian performing artists and identify one topical issue each addresses in their work.
  2. Describe how a selected Ghanaian song, drama, or performance expresses a topical issue of national concern such as road safety, plastic waste, or water pollution.
  3. Compare two performing artworks by the type of performance, topic or theme, materials or instruments used, and the style of the artist.
  4. Discuss in small groups the message of a Ghanaian performance and share one opinion on whether the artist expressed the issue clearly.
  5. Make a simple judgment about a Ghanaian performance using given assessment criteria and justify that judgment with at least one reason.

- discuss the compositions and performances to share ideas on how the selected artworks express topical issues of national concern in Ghana;
- assess the artworks by comparing the types, topic/theme, materials used, style of artist, etc.
