Learning Objectives
Indicator: B3.2.1.1.4 - Study and talk about performing artworks produced or performed in other African communities that reflect topical issues in those areas of Africa
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify at least three topical issues affecting communities in other parts of Africa (such as deforestation, disease, and conflict) and explain how these issues appear in music, dance, or drama from those areas.
- Discuss how deforestation affects the production of instruments like drums in African communities, giving at least one example.
- Describe how at least two topical issues (for example, cholera, HIV/AIDS, or road accidents) affect composers, performers, and performances in music, dance, and drama.
- Work in a small group to talk through and present short ideas for a performance artwork that reflects one topical issue studied in the lesson.
- Listen respectfully to classmates’ ideas and ask thoughtful questions about the performances they discuss.
