Learning Objectives

Indicator: B2.2.1.1.4 - Explore own experiences to talk about performing artworks that reflect topical issues in other communities in Ghana

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Name at least three topical issues affecting communities in Ghana, such as flooding, bush fires, road safety, or illegal mining.
  • Explain in simple terms one cause of a chosen topical issue (for example, poor waste disposal causes flooding).
  • Suggest at least one practical way a community can prevent or reverse a topical issue.
  • Work in a small group to develop a short drama, song, or dance idea that tells a story about a topical issue in another Ghanaian community.
  • Present their performing artwork idea to the class and talk about the issue it reflects.

- discuss the topical issues (e.g. no rainfall, rising temperatures, flooding, domestic and bush fires, road safety, burglary) of concern in Ghana;
- identify the causes of these topical issues (e.g. deforestation, poor waste
- disposal, unsafe driving, illegal mining);
- brainstorm on how these topical issues can be reversed or prevented; develop own ideas and concepts for composing and performing own music, dance and drama based on topical issues in other communities
