Therapeutic Device
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.3.2.LI.3 - Explore the future application of regenerative medicine for patients with disabilities.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define regenerative medicine and explain the three main strategies: cell therapy, tissue constructs, and artificial organs.
- Describe at least two ways regenerative medicine could be applied to help patients with physical disabilities in Ghanaian communities.
- Compare current treatments (prostheses, orthoses, cancer therapies studied in previous weeks) with future regenerative medicine approaches.
- Evaluate the potential benefits and challenges of applying regenerative medicine in Ghana’s health facilities.
- Create a word cloud showing key concepts and future hopes for regenerative medicine.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
Structured Talk for Learning: Learners are introduced to the strategies for regenerative medicine such as cell therapy (injection of stem cells at diseased sites), implantation of tissue constructs and artificial organs through a PowerPoint presentation or a video. Experiential Learning: Learners watch pictures or documentaries on regenerative medicine and suggest ways it could be applied to solve medical problems in the communities. Digital Learning: Design group word clouds on regenerative medicine. Teaching and Learning Resources: - Videos - Pictures - Charts - Projector Assessment (2.3.2.AS.3). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 1 Recall; Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding; Level 3 Strategic reasoning; Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning.
