By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define a republic in their own words and distinguish it from other forms of government.
  2. Describe the key events, from independence in 1957 to 1960, that led to the establishment of the First Republic.
  3. Identify at least three main features of the 1960 Constitution that created the First Republic.
  4. Explain the role of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the transition to republican status.
  5. Discuss at least two major achievements of the First Republic.
