Learning Objectives
Indicator: B8.6.3.1.1 - Assess the military rule era in Ghana (1966-1991).
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define military rule in their own words and give at least two examples of military regimes that ruled Ghana between 1966 and 1991.
- Identify at least three factors that led to the overthrow of civilian governments in Ghana during this period.
- Assess the positive and negative impacts of military rule on Ghana’s political, economic and social life.
- Evaluate whether the military era (1966 to 1991) was more harmful than helpful to Ghana’s development, using evidence to support their position.
- Speak clearly to a group, explaining one impact of military rule and giving a reasoned opinion on its significance.
