Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.3.1.1.1 - Explain the concept of food and the need for humans to eat

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define food in their own words as any substance that provides the body with nutrients for energy, growth and repair.
  2. Name the six classes of nutrients found in food: carbohydrates, proteins, fats/oils, vitamins, minerals and water.
  3. Identify at least two common Ghanaian foods and state the main nutrient each provides.
  4. Compare the physical appearance of a well-fed person with a starved person and explain the differences.
  5. Give at least three reasons why humans need to eat food daily.
