Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.4.1.LI.2 - Discuss hereditary diseases in humans.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define a hereditary disease and distinguish it from an infectious disease using clear examples.
- Explain the inheritance pattern of at least two hereditary diseases common in Ghana, namely sickle cell disease and haemophilia.
- Describe the symptoms, causes and basic genetic basis of diabetes, and cleft lip and palate.
- Discuss how knowing family medical history can help individuals make informed decisions about their health.
- Evaluate different sources of information about hereditary diseases for reliability and communicate findings respectfully with peers.
