Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.4.1.LI.1 - Examine the characteristics, causes, symptoms and preventions of pathogenic diseases.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define pathogenic diseases and distinguish them from non-communicable diseases using key characteristics such as transmissibility and causative agents.
  2. Classify common pathogenic diseases in Ghana according to their causative organisms (viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and worms).
  3. Describe the causes, modes of transmission, and typical symptoms of at least five common pathogenic diseases found in Ghanaian communities.
  4. Explain specific prevention strategies for pathogenic diseases, linking each strategy to the chain of transmission it interrupts.
  5. Work collaboratively in mixed-ability groups to analyse case scenarios of pathogenic diseases and present findings on symptoms and prevention to the class.
