Indicator: 2.4.1.LI.2 - Examine specific pathogenic diseases within the community and describe their causes, symptoms and prevention.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Identify at least three pathogenic diseases that commonly occur in their own community or district.
  • Describe the specific causative agent, major symptoms, and modes of transmission for each identified disease.
  • Explain practical prevention strategies for these diseases using locally available resources.
  • Investigate and report on myths, misconceptions, and stereotypes associated with pathogenic infections in their community.
  • Present a community disease profile that distinguishes between factual information and common misconceptions.

Problem-based Learning: Assign learners in groups or individually to identify a pathogenic disease in the community, describe it and explain how it can be prevented. Encourage learners to identify the myths and misconceptions surrounding these diseases while helping them to appreciate the stereotypes associated with these infections.
