Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.4.1.LI.1 - Explore common risks and hazards in the environment and how to address them.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:

- Assess a local workplace or familiar environment to identify potential risks and hazards and propose practical control measures for each.
- Apply the hierarchy of hazard control (elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, personal protective equipment) to recommend solutions for identified hazards.
- Justify the importance of hazard awareness and reporting in protecting personal and community health, using reasoning based on evidence gathered from a local visit or case study.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
- Enumerate possible hazards and risks in the home and workplace using think-pair-share. - Visit a local industry that is accessible, such as sawmills, palm kernel oil production, gari processing, etc. and assess the possible risks and hazards associated with their activities. Teaching and Learning Resources: - Pictures, charts, and videos on workplace and home hazards. - Camera, voice recording device, writing materials. Assessment (1.4.1.AS.1). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 3 Strategic reasoning.
