Learning Objectives

Indicator: B5.1.2.1.2 - Demonstrate ways to care for the environment.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. State at least five concrete ways to care for the environment, such as planting trees, proper waste disposal, legal mining, and clean-up exercises.
  2. Demonstrate proper waste disposal by sorting rubbish into organic and inorganic categories during a practical activity.
  3. Participate actively in a clean-up exercise within the school compound and explain the benefits of the activity.
  4. Explain in their own words at least three reasons why caring for the environment improves climatic conditions, such as adequate rainfall and balanced temperatures.
  5. Present a short group report on a class environmental project, highlighting what was done and why it matters.

- Through questions and answers, learners explain what they think a clean environment should be.
- Using Think-Pair-Share, learners talk about ways of caring for the environment through: tree planting, proper disposal of wastes, legal mining, clean-up exercises, avoiding environmental pollution, etc.
- Let learners organise and do clean-up exercises in the school environment.
- Guide learners in groups to do a project on: clearing a rubbish dump, planting trees, checking erosion, clearing choked gutters, etc.
- Let learners discuss and write down the importance of caring for the environment: the importance may include: it helps to improve climatic conditions such as adequate rainfall, balanced temperature on earth, etc.
- Let learners present their work in class for appreciation and discussion.
