SHS1 Aviation And Aerospace Engineering · Semester 2, Week 10

The Aviation Profession and Operations

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.3.1.LI.2 - Demonstrate how the different aviation operations work together to achieve smooth air travel.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Sequence the major aviation operations involved in a single air travel journey, from passenger check-in to aircraft arrival and turnaround.
  2. Explain how at least three aviation operations (for example, ground handling, air traffic control, and flight operations) depend on one another for safe and timely air travel.
  3. Construct a flowchart showing the interrelationships among aviation operations and the handover points between them.
  4. Perform a dramatised skit in a mixed-ability group that demonstrates the consequences when one aviation operation breaks down and how other operations respond.
  5. Evaluate, through class discussion, the critical weakness points in the aviation operations chain and propose practical improvements for smoother air travel in Ghana.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Collaborative Learning; Project-Based Learning: Teacher forms mixed-ability groups of learners to make a drama skit of the flowchart of aviation operations for smooth air travel and demonstrate the interrelationship among them.
Teaching and Learning Resources:
- Videos of aviation professionals at work, e.g., pilots flying an aircraft
- Copies of job advertisements for aviation roles
- ICAO Annexes
Assessment (1.3.1.AS.2). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning.
