Learning Objectives
Indicator: B5.5.3.1.2 - Examine sources of evidence about what happened during the 1948 riots.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify at least three different types of sources (photographs, maps, official reports, oral accounts, documentaries) that provide evidence about the 1948 riots.
- Analyse a map of Accra showing the approved route for the ex-service men and explain why the route mattered.
- Describe what happened at the Christianborg Crossroads on 28 February 1948, using evidence from at least two different sources.
- Discuss the arrest of the Big Six as an event that followed the riots, using evidence to support their account.
- Compare information from different sources and state at least one reason why sources may disagree about what happened.
