Indicator: B9.4.2.1.1

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify effective descriptive sentences in given passages and explain how the writer uses adjectives and sentence structure to create effect.
  2. Compose descriptive sentences that describe a character, a setting or a mood using multiple, powerful adjectives.
  3. Apply at least two sentence structures for effect (frontloading, listing or climactic sentence structure) when writing a short descriptive paragraph.
  4. Select and use precise, relevant details when describing a character, avoiding unimportant or distracting information.
  5. Proofread their own work and a peer’s work, correcting errors in spelling, punctuation and word choice.
