Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.4.2.2.1 - Compose formal writing (business letters, email, minutes, programme agenda reports) on given topics using appropriate format

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the standard parts of a formal letter and a formal email, including salutation, body, and sign-off, and arrange them in correct order.
  2. Compose a formal letter of complaint on a given topic using formal language, correct format, and no short forms or abbreviations.
  3. Compose a formal email on a given topic, applying the appropriate subject line, salutation, body, and closing.
  4. Edit and proofread a draft formal letter or email to correct errors in format, grammar, and formality, using a simple checklist.
  5. Publish a final polished version of their formal writing using ICT tools such as a word processor, demonstrating digital literacy.

Use appropriate text features (e.g., section headings in letters/email, main and sub-headings, bullets/numbering) to write various formal letters on a variety of themes.
- Provide information, explain a situation and/or express points of view:
- Describe, elaborate on and/or support/explain key points
- Apply the appropriate format (e.g. salutation in letters/email, signing off for notes/letters).
- Use formal language, avoid using short forms and abbreviations.
- Edit/Proofread the writing for sense or meaning, and effect.
- Publish writing using various media including ICT.
