Indicator: B8.4.2.1.2 - Use precise words phrases and sensory language to convey a vivid mental picture of places and events

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Identify precise adjectives, adverbs, and sensory language in a model description of a place or event.
  • Generate precise words and phrases (adjectives, adverbs, nouns, verbs) to describe a familiar Ghanaian place or event.
  • Write a short descriptive paragraph (8 to 12 sentences) that uses sensory language to create a vivid mental picture of a chosen place or event.
  • Sequence events or details using appropriate connectors (first, then, later, finally) to show clear order.
  • Edit and proofread their own writing for sense, meaning and effect, checking that the language creates the intended mood or picture.

- Describe places using adjectives such as ancient, beautiful, boring, bustling, charming and contemporary.
- Describe events using words such as:
ultimate, rare, far-off divine, violent, stellar, common, cross-cultural, unusual, unhinged, historic, freakishly, major, memorable, dire, huge, inexplicable, tortuous, unusual and significant.
- Use appropriate grammatical structures:
  - adjectives and adjective phrases for producing vivid descriptions
  - adverbs and adverbials for describing how an action has been carried out
  - connectors for showing sequence of events
  - direct and indirect speech for variation and adding interest
  - nouns and noun phrases (e.g., participants, objects)
  - prepositions and prepositional phrases
  - first-person pronouns
- Edit/Proofread the writing for sense, meaning and effect (targeted audience reaction).
- Publish writing using different media including ICT.
