Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.4.2.2.5 - Compose speeches for different purposes and occasions.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the purpose and occasion of a given speech topic and state the appropriate tone to use.
  2. Structure a speech using the three-part framework: introduction (tell them what you are going to tell them), body (tell them), and conclusion (tell them what you told them).
  3. Combine narrative, descriptive, explanatory and persuasive techniques in a speech to make both logical and emotional appeals.
  4. Draft a speech of at least three paragraphs for a specific occasion (e.g., a school event, a community gathering, a festival celebration).
  5. Practise delivering a short portion of a speech with appropriate volume, pace and eye contact.
