Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.4.2.1.2 - Use precise (technical) vocabulary, phrases and sensory language to convey a vivid mental picture of people and experiences

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify precise verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and sensory words in a given descriptive passage and state what mental picture each word creates.
  2. Replace vague words (e.g. “walked”, “nice”, “big”) with precise alternatives (e.g. “staggered”, “radiant”, “massive”) in given sentences.
  3. Write a short descriptive paragraph (6 to 8 sentences) about a familiar person using at least two sensory details and one precise verb.
  4. Use connectors of sequence (first, then, after that, finally) to organise the description of a person or an experience in a clear order.
  5. Revise a partner’s descriptive paragraph for meaning and effect, and proofread it for spelling, punctuation, and capitalisation errors.
