Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.1.4.1.2 - Identify and list common examples of energy-efficient gadgets and techniques used in homes, in schools and in the local communities e.g. using the appropriate energy-efficient gadgets - energy saving bulbs …, choosing the right appliances, cleaning your stove often (soot removal), reducing overall cooking time etc.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. define energy-efficient gadgets and techniques in their own words.
  2. identify at least five common energy-efficient gadgets used in homes, schools, and local communities.
  3. list at least four energy-saving techniques or habits that can be practised at home or school.
  4. explain how using energy-efficient gadgets and techniques helps families, schools, and the community save money and protect the environment.
  5. present findings from a group discussion to the whole class, showing teamwork and clear communication.

  • strand name - printed p.2 and the table of contents head B4 strand 1 "WORD PROCESSING", which is a copy-paste error. Corrected to "INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTING" on four pieces of evidence: the scope-and-sequence names strand 1 "Introduction to computing"; B5 and B6 both print "STRAND 1: INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTING" over the same sub-strands; B4 own p.9 heads strand 3 "WORD PROCESSING"; and B4 strand 1 sub-strands are Generation of Computers, MS-Windows Interface, Data Sources and Usage, and Technology in the Community, none of which is word processing

Bring pictures of energy-efficient gadgets or devices to class e.g. energy saving light bulbs, energy-efficient cooking stoves, toilet water saver, solar chargers, energy saving shower heads etc. to class. Guide learners to discuss in groups of five or less and present to the whole class examples of energy-efficient devices and techniques.
