Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B4.1.4.1.3 - Describe how a range of digital systems (hardware and software) and their peripheral devices can be used for different purposes in the community.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Name at least five different digital systems used in their community and identify the hardware, software and peripheral devices that make up each one.
- Explain the purpose of common peripheral devices (such as a printer, scanner, speaker and barcode reader) in everyday community settings.
- Match specific digital systems to the community purposes they serve (for example, trading, healthcare, education, banking and communication).
- Work in a group to present findings about one digital system and describe how its parts work together to serve the community.
- Suggest at least one new way a digital system or peripheral device could be used to solve a problem in their own community.

(Week 28 of the year)
Our suggestion, laid out in curriculum order across three terms of twelve weeks. NaCCA does not fix the week, so follow your school's scheme of learning.
- Source document note
-
The official curriculum document has a fault in this entry, so the curriculum text above is transcribed exactly as printed:
- strand name - printed p.2 and the table of contents head B4 strand 1 "WORD PROCESSING", which is a copy-paste error. Corrected to "INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTING" on four pieces of evidence: the scope-and-sequence names strand 1 "Introduction to computing"; B5 and B6 both print "STRAND 1: INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTING" over the same sub-strands; B4 own p.9 heads strand 3 "WORD PROCESSING"; and B4 strand 1 sub-strands are Generation of Computers, MS-Windows Interface, Data Sources and Usage, and Technology in the Community, none of which is word processing

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
Guide learners to discuss in groups of three to five, the range of digital systems and their peripheral devices. How they can be used for different purposes in the community. Let learners present their findings to the class. NB: technological tools stated here should be different from those stated in B3.
