Support Systems in Agriculture

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.3.2.LI.1 - Describe transfer-of-technology approaches and methods involved.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define the transfer-of-technology (TOT) approach and explain its core assumption that knowledge flows from researchers to farmers.
  2. Describe the key features of the Training and Visit (T & V) system, including the roles of the extension agent, the Village Extension Worker, and the fortnightly training schedule.
  3. Compare two case studies of extension delivery, one from the Department of Agricultural Extension Services and one from an NGO such as World Vision International, identifying how each applies TOT principles.
  4. Analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the TOT approach based on evidence from the case studies and Ghanaian agricultural history.
  5. Present findings on a TOT extension case study to the class, using a short PowerPoint or poster, and respond to questions from peers.
