By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Analyse a given text in entirety by identifying its topic, purpose and intended audience.
Distinguish the main idea from supporting ideas in a passage.
Produce an objective summary of a text that is free from personal opinion and unnecessary detail.
Answer summary questions accurately by citing evidence from the text.
Evaluate the quality of a summary by checking for completeness, objectivity and conciseness.
