Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.3.2.LI.2 - Discuss wall construction.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Define a wall and explain the role of walls within the superstructure of a building.
Differentiate between load-bearing and non-load-bearing walls based on their structural function.
Classify and describe at least five types of walls (e.g., solid, cavity, partition, retaining, parapet) and state where each is commonly used.
State the functions of walls, including support, enclosure, privacy, security, insulation, and aesthetics.
Work collaboratively in mixed-gender, mixed-ability groups (GESI-aligned) to present a short oral or written summary of how walls transfer loads from the roof and floors to the foundation.
