Indicator: 3.2.2.LI.2 - Assess the types and functions of elections.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify and describe the major types of elections conducted in Ghana, including general, presidential, parliamentary, district level, and by-elections.
- Explain the functions of elections in a democratic society, such as leadership selection, accountability, legitimacy, and peaceful transfer of power.
- Analyse the significance of including vulnerable and minority groups in elections and voting.
- Assess the strengths and weaknesses of Ghana’s electoral system using strategic reasoning and evidence from the 1992 Constitution and electoral practices.
- Evaluate the relationship between free and fair elections and the consolidation of democracy in Ghana.
