Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.2.2.LI.2 - Discuss the principles of mass media.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define mass media and identify at least four different forms of mass media available in Ghana.
  2. State and explain the key principles of mass media: accuracy, balance, fairness, and timeliness, giving at least one Ghanaian example for each.
  3. Analyse a short news item or media clip and assess whether it upholds or violates the principles of media.
  4. Discuss why citizens, media practitioners and public officials must be mindful of their utterances in a democratic society.
  5. Demonstrate the values of courage, fairness, balance, integrity and honesty when evaluating media content.

Experiential Learning: Listen to audio and watch video documentaries (Podcasting, Vodcasting, YouTube) on activities of the media and discuss the principles of the media. Learners' assessment of the principles of the media will instil the values of courage, fairness, balance, integrity and honesty. Focus on how people must be mindful of their utterances in democratic society.
