Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.1.2.LI.5 - Apply basic skills in performing individual and team sports (e.g., tennis - introduction to tennis).
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Demonstrate the correct grip technique (Eastern forehand grip) for holding a tennis racquet.
- Demonstrate an effective serving motion in tennis, including the correct stance and ball toss.
- Execute the ready position and basic footwork for moving to a ball on the court.
- Explain and apply the basic rules of tennis, including scoring, the serve, and court boundaries.
- Identify the equipment needed for tennis and describe how the game is structured (sets and matches).
This lesson builds directly on the skills learners developed in Weeks 1 to 4 with pickleball, especially the forehand stroke, footwork, and the concept of serving. The focus here is on introduction to tennis: the grip, stance, serving, and basic rules. The forehand and backhand strokes in tennis are scheduled for Week 6, so this lesson stops short of those strokes.
