Learning Objectives
Indicator: B3.2.2.2.3 - Identify steps and rhythm patterns for traditional and cultural dances.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Name at least two traditional Ghanaian dances, such as agbadza and adowa, and state the communities or regions where they are performed.
- Identify and demonstrate the five basic dance steps: balancing, closing, hesitating, pivoting, and rocking.
- Clap or drum simple rhythm patterns, including slow-quick and quick-quick, that accompany traditional dances.
- Match basic dance steps to the correct rhythm pattern when performing or observing a dance.
- Describe in their own words how the steps and rhythm patterns work together in a traditional dance performance.

Show video of traditional and cultural dances of Ghana such as agbadza, adowa, etc and guide learners to identify the steps and rhythm patterns. Learners can also sing and drum their local traditional and cultural dances for above exercise. Basic dance steps are: balancing, closing, hesitating, pivoting, and rocking. Basic dance rhythms are: slow- quick, quick-quick, etc.
