Songs
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B6.1.1.1.2
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify at least three familiar songs and state the moral value each song teaches.
- Sing a familiar song with appropriate stress and rhythm, demonstrating understanding of how these features carry meaning.
- Discuss the meaning of songs using appropriate vocabulary such as “honesty”, “love”, “respect”, “unity”, “hard work” and “gratitude”.
- Work cooperatively in a small group to compose an original song of four to eight lines around a chosen moral value.
- Present their composed song to the class with clear pronunciation, proper stress and observable rhythm.
This lesson builds on B6.1.1.1.1, where learners related central messages in songs to their personal experiences. This lesson moves learners from understanding songs to creating their own songs around values. The composing work here prepares learners for later weeks where they will perform and analyse a wider variety of songs.
