Learning Objectives

Indicator: B5.2.8.1.2 - Find the meaning of words as used in context

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least three words in a given passage whose meanings depend on the surrounding text.
  2. Use context clues such as examples, definitions, and opposite words to work out the meaning of an unfamiliar word.
  3. Explain how a single word can carry different meanings in different sentences.
  4. Work with a partner to agree on the meaning of a word as it is used in a specific sentence and justify their choice.
  5. Write one original sentence for each meaning of a given multiple-meaning word to show understanding of context.
