Learning Objectives

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Identify and distinguish between different French greetings (Bonjour, Bonsoir, Salut, Coucou) and farewell expressions (Au revoir, À bientôt, À demain) when heard in an audio or video conversation.
Extract key information from a short listening passage in which two people greet each other and take leave, answering simple comprehension questions in English or French.
Discriminate between similar-sounding French expressions such as “Comment ça va?” and “Comment vas-tu?” and match them to their meanings.
Respond appropriately to recorded or spoken greetings and farewells with the correct short reply (for example, “Je vais bien” for “Comment ça va?” and “Au revoir” for “Bonsoir”).
Show respect for the cultural conventions of greeting in French-speaking communities by using the formal “vous” form when the situation requires it, as heard in the model conversation.
