Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.3.3.LI.2 - Explain how the manufacturing industry affects the local and international economy (e.g., with respect to job creation, standards of living, sustainability and conservation of the environment.)

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain at least three ways the manufacturing industry creates jobs in both local communities and at the international level.
  2. Discuss how manufacturing activities improve or lower standards of living, using specific examples from Ghana and other countries.
  3. Analyse the relationship between manufacturing growth and environmental sustainability, including conservation efforts.
  4. Evaluate both the positive and negative economic effects of manufacturing on Ghana’s economy and the global economy.
  5. Present reasoned opinions, backed by evidence, on whether the benefits of manufacturing outweigh its costs to society.

Talk for Learning: In different task groups learners discuss the major effects of the manufacturing industry on the local and international economy with respect to job creation; standards of living; sustainability and conservation. Each group presents to the class for additions and questions.
Practice-Based Learning: Through questions and answer sessions learners share their opinions on the effects of the manufacturing industry on the economy of the country in specific, and present their findings to class for assessment, and receive feedback.
