Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.3.3.LI.2 - Follow general safety practices in the workplace.

By the end of this lesson, learners can:

  • Identify at least five general safety practices observed in a manufacturing workplace from a video or picture presentation.
  • Explain the purpose of personal protective equipment (PPE) and match each PPE item to the body part or hazard it protects.
  • Demonstrate correct procedures for reporting a hazard or accident in the workplace through a role-play scenario.
  • Distinguish between safe and unsafe practices shown in workplace scenarios, justifying their reasoning.
  • Apply general safety rules to a given workplace situation and propose the appropriate safety response.

Experiential Learning: Show learners a video of a manufacturing setting and let them identify the various safety practices to be followed at vantage locations at the workplace.
Talk for Learning: In pairs learners discuss the general safety practices at the workplace and share with the class.
Research-Based Learning: Learners in mixed - ability and gender groups research on the general safety practices to be followed at the workplace, present their findings to class, and receive feedback.
