SHS2 Robotics · Semester 1, Week 6

Robots & Society

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.1.1.LI.1 - Identify related job postings (online, newspapers, radio, etc.) and prepare sample responses.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least five different job postings related to robotics from at least three different media sources (online, newspapers, radio, or other sources).
  2. Outline the job requirements and responsibilities for a selected robotics-related job posting of their choice.
  3. Prepare a sample CV that matches the requirements of the selected job posting, highlighting relevant skills and experiences.
  4. Critique a colleague’s sample CV constructively, giving at least two specific suggestions for improvement.
  5. Present and justify their sample CV to the class, explaining how their CV addresses the job requirements.

This lesson builds on the earlier weeks’ discussions about how robots impact society and the need for safe coexistence, and it sets the stage for learners to think practically about how they can enter the robotics field.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Inquiry-Based Learning: Learners individually conduct research from different media sources on job postings related to robotics. Learners select one of the postings of their choice and outline the job requirements and responsibilities. They then pair with a colleague, and each of them shares the job they selected. Together, they work on sample CVs that they think will catch an employer's attention. They take turns critiquing each other's CVs, and each pair later presents their CVs to the class for comments. Structure presentations by outlining careers in robotics.

Assessment (2.1.1.AS.1). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding; Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning.
