SHS1 Robotics · Semester 1, Week 1

Robots & Society

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.1.1.LI.1 - Describe the distinct features and advancements that characterise the transition from each of the industrial revolutions.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the four industrial revolutions in chronological order and state the approximate time period of each.
  2. Describe at least three distinct features of each industrial revolution, including the key power sources, machines, and materials that defined them.
  3. Classify various machines and technologies under their correct industrial revolution using a chart or flowchart.
  4. Compare and contrast the transitions between consecutive revolutions, noting at least two advancements that enabled each shift.
  5. Present and defend personal observations from video documentaries on the industrial revolutions in a group discussion setting.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Experiential Learning: Watch videos on the various industrial revolutions, document personal observations, and share them with the class. Learners comment on shared observations.

Collaborative Learning: Sit in groups and discuss learner observations on the peculiarities of each revolution and the transitions. Groups classify various machines under the identified industrial revolutions. Structure learners' contributions using a flowchart to reflect features of various phases of transition.
