Learning Objectives

Indicator: B3.1.2.1.1 - Compose short rhymes and tongue-twisters and recite them

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Recall and recite at least two previously taught rhymes from earlier grades with accuracy and expression.
  2. Identify and name the rhyming words in a new rhyme presented by the teacher.
  3. Compose a short original rhyme of at least four lines on a given topic, ensuring the end words rhyme.
  4. Recite their composed rhyme clearly to the class, speaking loudly and at a steady pace.
  5. Work cooperatively in a group to create and perform a parallel rhyme based on a model.

- Present the new rhymes and perform them as learners listen and observe.
- Read through the lines meaningfully with learners.
- Let learners read through the lines in groups and individually on their own.
- Focus on rhyming words by helping learners to identify them.
- Put learners in convenient groups. Assign them a rhyme and task them to compose a parallel one.
- Have groups recite their rhymes with the class.
