Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.2.3.1.1 - Examine the nature and role of resources in the development of Ghana.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define resources in their own words and give at least three examples of resources found in Ghana.
- Classify Ghana’s resources into natural (renewable and non-renewable), human, and capital resources using a concept map.
- Explain the importance of at least four resources to Ghana’s development, citing specific examples such as gold, cocoa, timber, and the Volta River.
- Identify at least two challenges Ghana faces in developing its resources and suggest one way to address each challenge.
- Discuss how Ghana’s human resources (skills, knowledge, and labour) can be used to ensure the sustainable exploitation of natural resources.

1. Using the think-pair-share strategy, learners explain what resources mean. 2. In small groups, learners identify the various types of resources using concept maps. 3. Using videos or pictures, learners identify the types of natural resources (Renewable and non-renewable). 4. Using the internet, learners generate a map of Ghana showing the location of natural resources. 5. In mixed groupings, learners discuss the importance of resources in Ghana, 6. Using the thought shower strategy, learners discuss ways of developing resources in Ghana and the challenges involved. 7. In pairs, learners explain how Ghana's human resources can be used to ensure sustainable exploitation of natural resources.
