Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.2.2.1.2 - Demonstrate understanding of basic scripture recitations/oral traditions in the three major religions

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Recite Psalm 23 and Exodus 20 (The Ten Commandments) from the Bible with reasonable accuracy.
Recite Al-Fatihah and Al-Ikhlas from the Qur’an with reasonable accuracy and state their basic meanings.
Explain the meaning of at least two Ghanaian oral traditions, including “Okwan twa asuo; asuo twa okwan” and “Naazorabataa bin.”
Identify the core message or moral teaching in each recited text.
Compare how the Bible, the Qur’an and Ghanaian oral traditions each serve as sources of guidance for daily living.

4. Recite basic texts from the Bible, Qur'an and Oral traditions
• Bible - Psalm 23 (RSV), Exodus 20 (The Ten Commandments), etc.
• Qur'an- Al- Fatihah (Qur'an chapter 1), Al-Ikhlas (Qur'an Chapter 112), etc.
• Oral tradition - Okwan twa asuo; asuo twa okwan (literally,"The path crosses the river; the river crosses the path")
Naazorabataa bin (Dagaari proverb) which literally means "a rolling stone gathers no moss"), etc.
