SHS1 Art And Design Foundation · Semester 2, Week 18
Relation of Forms
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.3.3.LI.1 - Exhibit/display drawings and designs that relate basic contours and forms in the environment using conventional and non-conventional materials.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify and name basic contours (outlines) and forms (geometric and organic) found in objects within their immediate environment.
- Distinguish between conventional drawing media (pencil, charcoal, pen, crayon) and non-conventional media (string, sand, fabric scraps, leaves, wire, recycled paper) with practical examples.
- Produce a minimum of two contour drawings of environmental objects using both a conventional medium (e.g., pencil or charcoal) and a non-conventional medium (e.g., string or wire).
- Combine related basic forms to design a simple composition of objects from the environment, using either dry or wet media.
- Present and justify their finished drawing/design to peers, explaining media choices and how contours and forms relate in their composition.

Experiential Learning/ Self-directed Learning: In groups, analyse selected objects in the environment to identify and record their basic forms using contour drawings. Experiential Learning/ Explorative Learning: In small groups, generate a chart to distinguish between conventional and non-conventional media and techniques for creative expression through drawing. Project-Based Learning/Collaborative learning: In small groups/working individually, use conventional and non-conventional materials as well as modern and industrial approaches to create compositions of objects in the environment using modern and digital media. Assessment (1.3.3.AS.1). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning. Teaching and Learning Materials: - Textbooks - web references - projector - computer - LCD Screens - flip charts, TLMs on colour theory and application - posters - flyers - buntings - paintings - drawings and illustrations
