SHS3 Manufacturing Engineering · Semester 1, Week 18
Rapid Prototyping
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.2.2.LI.1 - Explain the importance of rapid prototyping technologies.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define rapid prototyping (RP) and state at least three ways it differs from traditional prototyping methods.
- Explain at least four importance of rapid prototyping technologies in manufacturing, including reduced time, lower cost, early error detection, and design improvement.
- Discuss how rapid prototyping impacts product development cycles in manufacturing industries.
- Work collaboratively in mixed-ability groups to research and present the importance of rapid prototyping, using a concept map or webbing to organise ideas.

Experiential Learning: Show learners videos of rapid prototyping technologies and lead them to discuss the importance of rapid prototyping in manufacturing. Organise their thoughts using concept maps or webbing. Teaching and Learning Materials: - Audio-visuals - Projectors - Videos on RP technologies Assessment (3.2.2.AS.1). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 1 Recall; Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding.
