Rapid Prototyping

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.2.2.LI.1 - Explain the advantages and disadvantages of rapid prototyping.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. State at least five advantages of rapid prototyping in product development.
  2. State at least four disadvantages or limitations of rapid prototyping.
  3. Compare the advantages of rapid prototyping with conventional prototyping methods using specific criteria such as time, cost, and design flexibility.
  4. Evaluate, using strategic reasoning, a given product development scenario and decide whether rapid prototyping is the most suitable approach, justifying their choice with evidence.
  5. Present and defend their findings on rapid prototyping advantages and disadvantages to peers using clear spoken communication.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Research-Based Learning: Learners in mixed-ability groups read from the library on the advantages and disadvantages of rapid prototyping and present their findings in class to receive feedback from their colleagues. Let learners add to what others say and organize their views.
Teaching and Learning Materials:
- Library resources
- Textbooks
- Internet access
- Audio-visuals
Assessment (1.2.2.AS.1). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 3 Strategic reasoning.
