SHS1 Robotics · Semester 2, Week 14
Programming Robots
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.3.3.LI.1 - Create computer programs from pre-designed flowcharts that have single-decision conditions.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Read a pre-designed flowchart and identify the single-decision condition (the diamond shape) and the two possible paths that follow from it.
- Translate each symbol in a pre-designed flowchart into the corresponding programming construct (e.g., if-then-else, loops, input/output commands) in a familiar programming environment.
- Write and test a computer program that implements a single-decision condition exactly as represented in a given flowchart.
- Debug and refine a program iteratively by comparing the program’s behaviour against the logic of the flowchart until the robot responds correctly.
- Present their working program and robot demonstration to peers, explaining how the flowchart guided their code.

Semester 2, Week 14
(Week 34 of the year)
Our suggestion, laid out in curriculum order across three terms of twelve weeks. NaCCA does not fix the week, so follow your school's scheme of learning.

The official curriculum document has a fault in this entry, so the curriculum text above is transcribed exactly as printed:
- strand name - printed with an ampersand in this year and spelled out in Year 2 and in the scope and sequence; renamed to the scope form. Printed form: Robot Construction & Programming

Talk for Learning: Through discussions, conduct a revision of learners' knowledge in programming and create functional decision-making programs that control a built robot in a familiar programming language or environment. Project-Based Learning: Work in groups to develop functional decision-making programs that implement single decision conditions identified in the flowcharts from the learning experience of indicator 3.1.1.2 Assessment (1.3.3.AS.1). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning. Write and test computer programs progressively and iteratively on a built robot to address the challenge of a recognised global robotics challenge (e.g. from the World Robot Olympiad) using IDEs and present your robot in class for peer review. [Learners should work in groups for this assessment] Teaching and Learning Resources: - Programming IDEs - Online Resources - Computers - Built Robot, etc.
