Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.2.1.LI.2 - Compare Economies of scale to Diseconomies of scale.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Construct a comparison table showing at least three differences and two similarities between economies of scale and diseconomies of scale.
  2. Analyse a given business scenario and classify the cost changes described as either economies or diseconomies of scale, justifying their reasoning.
  3. Explain how the size of a firm’s operations affects its average cost of production, using concrete Ghanaian business examples.
  4. Evaluate the point at which economies of scale turn into diseconomies of scale and explain why this happens.
  5. Present findings from group research on economies and diseconomies of scale using digital tools such as PowerPoint.
