Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.2.1.LI.1 - Relate the concepts of production to Productivity.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Distinguish clearly between production (the creation of goods and services) and productivity (the ratio of output to input) using local examples.
  2. Calculate productivity using the formula Productivity = Output ÷ Input for simple production scenarios.
  3. Explain at least three factors that influence productivity levels in a firm, such as technology, worker skills, and management.
  4. Analyse, using strategic reasoning, why two similar firms producing the same good may have different levels of productivity.
  5. Apply the concept of productivity to suggest practical ways of improving output in a given Ghanaian production setting, such as a pure water factory or a carpentry shop.
