Learning Objectives
Indicator: B6.1.10.1.1 - Demonstrate awareness of the features of spoken language e.g. the use of modal expressions to convey tentativeness e.g. probably, not too sure etc.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify modal expressions that show tentativeness, such as probably, perhaps, maybe, not too sure, I think, and I suppose, in spoken sentences.
- Explain why speakers use tentative language when they are not completely certain about something.
- Use modal expressions appropriately in short spoken dialogues on familiar topics.
- Distinguish between statements made with certainty and statements made with tentativeness.
- Revise and recognise contractions and ellipsis as features of spoken language (e.g. “What’s your name?” “Esi.”) in conversations and in simple texts.
