Indicator: B6.1.10.1.3 - Demonstrate awareness of how meaning is conveyed through appropriate pace, stress, tone - through news reporting

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain how pace, stress and tone affect the meaning of a spoken news report.
  2. Identify examples of fast or slow pace, stressed words and shifts in tone when listening to a news presentation.
  3. Discuss in groups how a newsreader’s pace, stress and tone influence the listener’s understanding and feelings.
  4. Present a short news item on a given topic, deliberately using appropriate pace, stress and tone to convey meaning clearly.
  5. Give simple feedback on a classmate’s news presentation, commenting on pace, stress and tone.
