Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B4.1.10.1.1 - Demonstrate awareness of the features of spoken language (contractions, ellipsis e.g. A: How are you? B: Fine)
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify contractions (such as can’t, shouldn’t, I’m, we’ll) in short spoken dialogues and state the full forms of each contraction.
- Explain what ellipsis means in spoken language, using the example of a short answer such as “Fine” in response to “How are you?”
- Form contractions correctly from given pairs of words (e.g., do + not = don’t, will + not = won’t).
- Use ellipsis appropriately in short spoken exchanges by giving complete answers in full form first, then shorter spoken versions.
- Role-play a short conversation that includes at least two contractions and one example of ellipsis, demonstrating awareness of natural spoken English.
